Afghanistan Celebrates World Press Freedom Day

Today UNESCO, UNDP, Afghanistan Ministry of Information and Culture and Afghanistan Journalists Federation jointly celebrated the World Press Freedom Day under the global theme “Safe to Speak: Securing Freedom of Expression in All Media”. The Afghan observance came three days after the event was launched on 3 May at a ceremony held in San Jose, Costa Rica to mark the global launch.

Four million Afghan voters and nine provinces can look forward to more effective elections and a more responsive democracy following a US$8.6 million agreement signed today between H.E. Reiichiro Takahashi, the Ambassador of Japan and Mr. Alvaro Rodriguez, the Country Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in the presence of the chairman of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), H.E. Fazal Ahmed Manawi.
National Governance Forum To Review Progress on Development Benchmarks

The forum was co-chaired by H.E. Senior Minister Hedayat Amin Arsala, Head of the Governance Cluster and H.E Omar Zakhilwal, Minister of Finance.
UNDP Supports Media Learning Course on Budgeting

Twenty journalists from Afghanistan working in leading media organizations in Kabul, Afghanistan participated in the one day interactive learning course event titled 'Know Your Budget'. The course was organized in partnership with the Ministry of Finance and UNDP Making Budgets and Aid Work Project. The course covered subjects such as preparation of national budget, its relevance and implication at national level, how the budget addresses priorities that will benefit the people of Afghanistan and measures to promote sound Public Financial Management.
Kabul Youth Clean up Parks and Plant Trees to Celebrate International Volunteer Day
Kabul, 04 December 2015 — To mark International Volunteer Day, over 200 youth cleared rubbish and planted trees in east Kabul’s Ahmad Shah Baba Maina district. They sent a clear message that, with a little effort, anyone can transform their streets and parks into clean, livable spaces for children, families and communities.
