    The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme that is designed to bring benefits of community-based environmental management to Afghanistan was launched here today. An event to mark the occasion was organized at the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), the designated Government agency for protection of environment. The programme will promote capacity development for community-based conservation efforts, youth participation and livelihoods generation at the local level.

  • 600 Indian Scholarships Boost Agricultural and Civil Service Reform Jul 22, 2012

    Agricultural research and development is expected to receive a major boost in Afghanistan with the formalization of an agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) and the Government of India that will allow Afghan students to avail of over 600 scholarships to Universities in India over the next five years. The scholarships will be granted for Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. programs in the fields of Agriculture, Civil Service and Forestry.

    Four million Afghan voters and nine provinces can look forward to more effective elections and a more responsive democracy following a US$8.6 million agreement signed today between H.E. Reiichiro Takahashi, the Ambassador of Japan and Mr. Alvaro Rodriguez, the Country Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in the presence of the chairman of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), H.E. Fazal Ahmed Manawi.

    Twenty journalists from Afghanistan working in leading media organizations in Kabul, Afghanistan participated in the one day interactive learning course event titled 'Know Your Budget'. The course was organized in partnership with the Ministry of Finance and UNDP Making Budgets and Aid Work Project. The course covered subjects such as preparation of national budget, its relevance and implication at national level, how the budget addresses priorities that will benefit the people of Afghanistan and measures to promote sound Public Financial Management.

  • Street Art captures Child's Eye View of Police In Afghanistan Jan 31, 2012

    Resonant with meaning, street art said it all. Through gentle strokes of brush and an imagination leavened by their daily interactions with the police force that best symbolizes the writ of the state, children spoke loud and clear. "The Child's Eye View" was a special art show unveiled on the occasion of the launch of the Police Perception Survey 2011, here today. The show profiled the work of 50 street children aged 8 to 15. Their paintings represent the veritable agenda for the police that young, tormented souls on the street would like to have for their country.
