New Leadership: UNDP Country Director Arrives Today

Kabul, June 2015 — As Country Director, Douglas leads UNDP Afghanistan and provides direction to its activities so that they contribute to achieving large-scale and lasting transformative change in partnership with the Government of Afghanistan.

Prior to his current posting in Kabul, Douglas served as Chief of Staff in the Department of Field Support at the UN Secretariat in New York where he focused on efforts to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of UN peacekeeping operations and special political missions.

Before joining the UN Secretariat, Douglas held various positions at UNDP, including Country Director in Sri Lanka and Deputy Chief of Staff at the Executive Office in New York.

In his earlier career, Douglas worked on assignments with UNICEF Sierra Leone, the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

Douglas has a BA in English Literature from Cornell and an MA in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

He is married with three children.
